Connecting the sound moving around a church sanctuary with the movements of the organist was the first cognitive experience of his life path. He began playing piano at age four, and studied piano, voice, and trombone through high school and several years of college. Dwight was active in church musical ministry since the early 1970s, before opting to have his weekends back in early 2017. His favorite genres of music to perform, compose/arrange, and listen to are New Age (modern lite classical), Posi (positive messaged multi-genric), and Ambient (meditative, atmospheric, journey-esque). Dwight has also studied acoustics, sound reinforcement, and recording, and has designed, implemented, consulted, and/or operated several installations over the years.
Originally a native of Riverton, IL, Dwight's initial experience in piano care was by watching that community's elder tuner, Albert Camille, work on his family's piano. Formal technical training was at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, IA, from which he was graduated and certified in 1982. He has cared for pianos in Springfield, IL and the surrounding area since then, with excursions to Austin, TX adding flavor and perspective. A longtime member of the Piano Technicians Guild, Dwight has achieved Registered Piano Technician (RPT) affiliation, and has held offices in the central Illinois chapter, most recently as chapter president.
